Today marks the 6-month anniversary of the Victor Harbor Medicare Urgent Care Clinic, which opened at 65 Ocean St on 18 December 2025. In the past 6 months:
- Total number of individual human beings served (not including repeat visits): 7,219
- To put this number into context, this represents 38.6% of the 18,663 people in the Local Government Area, or 25.4% of the regional population of 28,363 inclusive of Victor Harbor, Port Elliot, and Goolwa.
- Total number of patients seen (inclusive of repeat patient visits) : 9,318
- Average number of patients seen per day: 51
- Total number of new doctors delivering care to the region (who were previously unaffiliated with VMC): 6
In order to meet this demand, the Victor Harbor UCC voluntarily staffs two doctors and two nurses at all times, whereas the minimum UCC staffing level is one doctor and one nurse.
In addition to the quantity of patients seen, the UCC continuously strives to improve the quality of care delivered to the community within the parameters of the UCC operational guidelines. We systematically review all patient feedback and complaints looking for ways in which we can be better tomorrow than we were today.
The doctor-owners of Victor Medical Centre operate the Victor Harbor Medicare Urgent Care Clinic as a separate practice from VMC under contract with the Country SA Primary Health Network (PHN). The UCC is meant to be an ED-avoidance program and not a GP-avoidance program, meaning that the UCC is not meant to replace your normal primary GP. Broadly speaking, the UCC is designed to address the unmet need for care between the hospital ED (which focuses on life-threatening emergencies) and your regular GP for those times when patients require care that is not life-threatening yet cannot wait for your next GP appointment, which may be weeks away.
